Step 09

Closing Day

Sign the final paperwork, pay your closing costs, and get your keys.

Closing day is the finish line! A few days before closing, you will receive a Closing Disclosure (CD) document detailing your exact final loan terms, monthly payment, and the precise amount of cash you need to bring to the closing table. You will usually need to wire this money to the title company or bring a cashier's check.

Within 24 hours of closing, you'll do a Final Walkthrough of the property. This is your chance to verify that the home is in the agreed-upon condition, the sellers have completely moved out, and any negotiated repairs were actually completed.

At the closing table (usually at a title company or attorney's office), be prepared to sign a mountain of paperwork. You will sign the mortgage, the promissory note, and various disclosures. Once all the papers are signed and the funds are transferred, the house is officially yours!
